We will help you become a kiteboarder, wing foiler or efoiler. We customize each lesson according your goals and needs. We have the most experienced instructors and the best selection of equipment anywhere on the Florida coast. There's just no substitute for our 24 year history of teaching success.
For kiteboarding, the typical teaching program works like this:
Lesson 1- In this lesson, you will concentrate on the kiteboard kite. Your instructor will teach you how to setup, inspect, fly, and dismantle your equipment, to include the kite. Your instructor will teach you the principles of wind power and how to use your kite to pull you through the water. We accomplish this be starting with a small trainer kite on land, and progressing to a full-size kiteboard kite in the water. Your instructor will also review some of the basic safety procedures you'll need to know for safe kiteboarding. After the first lesson most students are very comfortable with the basics of kite control and everyone leaves with a smile.
Lesson 2- This lesson starts with a quick review of the information from lesson 1. After this review, the student sets up and inspects their own kiteboard equipment with assistance from their instructor as needed. Our instructor will help you launch your kite and will begin teaching more safety techniques, "body dragging" (a technique to control yourself and the kite, without a board on your feet) and basic kiteboard riding posture. Often, by the mid-point of lesson 2, students are beginning to enjoy short rides and are perfectly prepared for lesson 3.
Lesson 3- This lesson is widely regarded as the most fun for our students. Your instructor will make sure you stay in a safe area and bring you back upwind if you ride to far downwind (we have a wave runner available for lesson 3, for this purpose). This is where students really start to put the pieces together and get the feeling of how to ride the kite and the board. Your kiteboarding career has begun.
Lesson Prices per 3 hour lesson:
1 person = $375
2 people = $562.50 ($281.25 each)
3 people = $750 ($250 each)
3 Lesson Bundle Package (by far, our most popular option) = $900
Hourly Lesson = $150 per hour
If you're already a kiteboarder and are visiting our area, we're happy to work with you on your riding skills! From jumping, transitioning, unhooked tricks, or maybe something like upwind riding, we're available for 1 on 1 instruction! We provide all the equipment, so you don’t have to worry about paying to bring your own gear! This is a great way to spend a day!
FAQ’s
Do I have to take all three lessons? No, you can take as many lessons as you would like. However, we've developed our kiteboarding curriculum over the last 18 years, and have found it to be the best way to develop new kiteboarders as quick as possible. Our instructors will modify your lesson to your ability and the pace at which you learn. At XL Kites, we'll never push a student faster, or farther, than they are safely capable ot performing.
Why can’t I get on the board my first lesson? Kiteboarding is a sport that takes time and practice. For most people this is completely different from anything else they've ever done. We often compare it to wakeboarding while driving the boat at the same time. Much like learning to drive a boat, learning to fly a kiteboard kite is fun, but most people are not comfortable enough after one lesson to add the board.
What do I need to bring for my lesson? Nothing besides clothes to use in the water. We provide all the equipment, water, wetsuits, and even drysuits (if needed) so we can teach kiteboarding in any condition.
How do I schedule my lesson? You can do it one of three ways. You can call the shop, you and send an e-mail to info@xlkites.com, or you can order it thru the website. We will contact you and schedule a date for your lessons. It's that easy!

Your third 3 hour Kiteboarding Lesson will be all about perfecting our craft with flying the kite and riding at the same time. This is where you will be familiar with all things kiteboarding from setup to break down.

Your second 3 hour Kiteboarding Lesson will cover initial 4-line kite setup and how to prepare all equipment necessary to launch the kite. We will begin by introducing the new dimensions of a 4-line kite and becoming used to flying bigger, more powerful kites.
